Welcome to the first howtodoinductions.com newsletter!
We're glad you decided to sign-up for our site and look forward to hearing about everything you are learning. More importantly, we're excited to hear about how you decide to put this into practice.
You've probably noticed that we are currently in the "Beta" test-stage with the site, so now's the time to suggest improvements. What does it not include that you would find useful? What does it currently do that you are not interested in? And, from your perspective, what's missing?
Of course, you're also welcome to tell us what you absolutely love!
In the coming weeks and months, we will be adding more inductions, always keeping a focus on what is practical and what actually works. Look out for the following inductions to be added, along with tips and notes on delivery, before too long:
Leisure Activity Trance Induction
- A powerful conversational induction that is so natural to use that you literally have to stop yourself hypnotising people!
Bandler Handshake
- This is one of the easiest and yet most effective inductions ever developed. In fact, some people have described it as crown jewel of inductions, because it satisfies so many people's needs - a rapid induction that is simple to use and works like a charm!
Uptime/Downtime Induction
- The uptime/downtime induction works on a principle that our favourite inductions employ a great deal - fractionation. Look out for a future article on that too.
Ambiguous Handshake (Erickson)
- This is one of the inductions made famous by Milton Erickson, admired by many, but practiced by few. We'll demystify the process for you and offer some tips to get you practicing it straightaway.
We will also introduce the Thain Wrist-Lift, reproduced by kind permission of Barry Thain. This is something of a variation of the Erickson Ambiguous Handshake that you will want to go right out and practice. We will add detailed notes and tips on delivery, to get you started right away.
However, what I'm most excited to announce is an induction that I plan to add later this month, that I can guarantee you won't have come across anywhere else... because we invented it! So, watch this space for *The Pattern Interrupt interrupt*, along with guidelines on when and where to use it and tips for adapting it to create your own variations.
How to Use howtodoinductions.com
There's no real 'lesson' this month, as I thought it was important to remind you how *not* to use the site. There's only so many times I can say this, but !site is not a collection of scripts. Our intention is not for you to go through the site, print out the inductions and simply read them to your client/patient/subject.
Now, to be honest, there are some inductions where you could pretty much do that and still get a good result. Progressive Muscle Relaxations and the Elman induction are pretty hard to get wrong, for example. However, simply reading words off of a page is no way to improve as a hypnotist. And that's precisely what we intend this site to do for you.
The real way to improve as a hypnotist can be summed up in three words: Practice, Practice, Practice! And what our inductions provide are examples of people doing just that. They are not so much scripts, as they are transcripts. They simply offer demonstrations of the inductions in action, intending to encourage you to do the same.
Our Notes and Tips provide guidelines and pointers, based on the experiences of people actually using these inductions. In no way should they be seen as rules or laws to be followed, or conditions to be met if the induction is to work. Instead, they serve to give a fuller picture of the induction in action, for you to learn from, not just repeat or imitate.
If you have never hypnotised any one before, then by all means start with the Exercises and then move on to reading the Progressive Muscle Relaxation to someone. After that, have the script of The Elman Induction in front of you, but feel free to depart from it. Following that, you will be more than ready to use The Rehearsal Induction, using our transcript as a guide only.
In short, the whole idea of this site is to inspire hypnotists and hypnotherapists to explore new and different inductions and to be creative with how they use them. To simply read them off of the page is a missed opportunity and - to be completely honest - more than a little bit boring! Think of it like a cook-book: you can just flick through and look at all of the pretty pictures. Alternatively, you can follow the recipes completely, like perfect laws to be obeyed. Or, you can take the path of all future Master Chefs and see them as a training manual, providing inspiration and guidance.
The Choice is Yours!
Happy hypnotizing!
