Notes

The My Friend John Induction is far and away my favourite induction. Like The Fake Induction or The Fractionarion Induction, it is ideal for gently leading someone into trance. After all, with no obvious induction directed towards them, they find it hard to resist going into trance.

My Friend John is simple and flexible, relying on good pacing and leading from start to finish. Each time I deliver this induction it looks different. Sometimes I may describe doing a Progressive Muscle Relaxation, particularly if I think that the client could benefit from learning the skills involved in a PMR. At other times, I may use Eye-fixation, or confusion. In fact, I probably use elements of different inductions thrown in each time. That makes it effectively an induction within an induction!

In the transcript on this site, I have borrowed a hand-levitation from the version credited below. This is an effective gauge of how well the client is responding. I would expect that by now they are taking everything on board themselves, having effectively forgotten about "John" or their own friend. So, their own hand
should begin to lift, encouraged by pacing and leading.

The Video Example shows an interesting version being used by Dan Jones.

Tips

As you describe the induction, pay attention to the trance developing in the client. Notice the minimal cues developing and include them in your description of how the previous client began to go into trance.

The client initially does not realise that it is the changes in themselves that are that are being described, but as soon as they feel trance developing, they usually lets go and enter trance.
